Solid swell from Hurricane Linda with good conditions made for proper Malibu surf for the 2015 MSA Classic Invitational and Club Coalition Contest Sept 11-13th at First Point. Guy Takayama Surf Team Riders competed in the Invitational, Noseriding and Club Coalition Contests.

Joe Rickabaugh, a local of Ventura County / Malibu area placed third in Men’s Noseriding and Fourth in Men’s 20-29.

Team Rider Maui Zack Meyers made the trip from Honolulu to compete in all three contests. He made it to the semi finals in Men’s 20-29 riding the Ali’i GT7 Performance Noserider.

Austin Hollingshead booked a flight out of Florida for an extended California surf trip. Both he and Team Rider Kevin Skvarna surfed in the extremely competitive Men’s 14-19. Kevin made it through to the semi finals.

Competing in the Men’s 50-59 division, Team Rider Mike Emerson took first in his Round 1 heat, while Mike Gillard placed a respective second, riding the Pahoa Performance Longboard. Guy Takayama also won his Round 1 Heat, meeting Gillard in the finals. Gillard went on to finish second in the event, while Guy finished third.

On the women’s side, Team Rider Sophia Tiare Bartlow placed third in her first heat, Women’s 20-34, up against top competitors Erin Ashley and Kaitlin Macguire but did not make it beyond the semi finals.
